Methodology of research in literary studies 3304-2D1O-MBWL-053
Classes relate to selected key methods in literary studies of recent decades. They serve to familiarise students with the conceptual tools and main ideas present in the latest literary studies and humanities. The aim is to give students the tools to deepen scientific work on literary texts and to write essays.

Learning outcomes
After the end of the course, the student:
1. knows at an extended level the concepts and the corresponding terms used to describe language, literature and culture, and understands their location in relation to other areas of the humanities;
2. has in-depth knowledge of the methodology of research on language, literature and culture;
3. has in-depth knowledge of research directions in linguistics
and literary studies and about the latest developments in these disciplines;
4. has in-depth research skills, including the analysis of research problems, formulation of hypotheses, selection of research methods, development and presentation of results to the extent necessary to participate in a scientific discussion and preparation of own research papers in the field of Romance philology;
5. can use various theoretical approaches, research paradigms and concepts specific to linguistics and literary studies, also in atypical professional situations;
6. has the ability to substantiate argumentation using the views of other authors and own views, formulate conclusions and their synthetic approach;
7. can work in a group, solve problems in discussions and initiate solutions appropriate to the situation.
Assessment criteria
- Continuous assessment on the basis of participation in classes (permissible 2 absences, participation in the discussion),
- paper,
- oral test at the end of the semester.
The form and criteria for passing the course may change depending on the current epidemic threat. Equivalent credit conditions will be established in accordance with the guidelines in force at the University of Warsaw, in consultation with the participants of the classes.
