The subject is connected with the problems of civilizations of the East. It will be realized from the perspective of social sciences and Arts, with stress on social, political and cultural processes. The subject is to help the students to understand diversity and variety of civilizations of the East, to enable students to use acquired basic knowledge for analyzing and understanding of social, political and cultural processes and surrounding social and cultural reality, also from the historical perspective.
The conversatorium in the first semester are to enable the student to acquire knowledge and to understand social, cultural and political processes in the Near and Middle East and in the Asian part of the USSR. In the programme of the conversations there are social, political and cultural problems in chosen empires of regions, beliefs of the people of the regions, cultural, social and political changes of XX and XXI century.
It is difficult to indicate approximate total number of hours, which the student has to devote to achieve the effects of education. It depends mainly on intellectual competences of the student, and also on general knowledge acquired during the previous periods of education. According to demand of counting points ECTS the student should devote 50-60 hours a semester to achieve the effects of education.

Learning outcomes
General competences: extending general knowledge, consciousness of basic processes and social, cultural and political phenomena in the East; consciousness of cultural, ethnic and social diversity of Eastern civilizations, also in the historical domain, using acquired knowledge to explain social, cultural and political reality and compare social and cultural phenomena.
Subject competences for the first semester: knowledge of ethnic map of the Near and Middle East and Asian post-Soviet areas and also beliefs and religion practice by people of the indicated regions; the ability to show elementary social, cultural and political principles in chosen empires of the Near and Middle East; understanding complexity, diversity and hybridization of social, cultural and political processes in given sub-regions, also in the historical context; abilities to analyze the causes of social, cultural and political changes in indicated regions, also from the post-colonial perspective.
Assessment criteria
During conversatoriums students will write work twice (once in the first semester and once in the second one).
In the first semester the work takes place during classes under control and the student answers descriptive questions, constructed to check student’s acquired knowledge, understanding and the ability to use it. A part of questions demands skills of analysis and synthesis from the student and judging using acquired knowledge.
