The aim of the course is to familiarize participants with selected aspects of contemporary culture, cultural studies as a discipline and "cultural animation" concept. Other aims are: raising awareness to the problems of modern culture, especially related to participation in culture within modern society, raising students' activeness and sensibility.
The idea of "cultural animation" is associated with practice and theory of culture, is closely linked to the cultural education. Today, the concept of "cultural animation" is becoming an area of discussion about the artistic, educational and social activities. The concept reflects the changing role of culture in social life.
Student of cultural studies perceived not long ago as a typical academic, is now (or should be) a specific type of practitioner. In his/her field of work should appear various issues of cultural anthropology, hot topics of recent discussions (like for example libraries, function of museum, cultural centres and peripheries), terms such as "cultural animation", "cultural education", "heritage", etc ...
Issues discussed during the classes: cultural animation; cultural education; city as the cultural space and the scene of changes in culture; my place in the city; cultural policy; counter-culture; heritage; exclusion from culture; media and culture; modern cultural institution ("dom kultury" / "the house of culture"); museum; visual and other examples of cultural animation's projects.

Assessment criteria
Conversatory lessons are focused on discussions and students' activities and finishes with presentation (in different forms).
Themes for the students' presentations are provided in the begining of semester and students are supposed to precise them according to their own interests and ideas.
Lecturer show and discuss various aspects of issues presented during the classes. These presentations are complimentary to those made by students.
