The course will discuss the following topics:
1. Ethnic conflicts in Georgia (Abkhazia, South Ossetia)
2. The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict
3. Conflicts in Moldova. The Transnistrian problem
4. National problems in the Baltics
5. Central Asia: political and economic characteristics
6. Konflicts in former Yugoslavia
7. Arab-Israeli conflict in the Middle East
8. Problem of Northern Cyprus
9. Afghanistan: national and political problems
The teacher reserves the right to make certain changes in the curriculum.

Learning outcomes
- has basic knowledge of the political and economic situation in individual countries of the former USSR;
- can logically explain the emergence and course of national conflicts in the post-Soviet space;
- can assess the demographic and political consequences of armed conflicts in individual countries;
- knows the geopolitical, cultural and religious conditions of armed conflicts in certain regions of the world;
- Based on the acquired knowledge, he can explain the historical, cultural and political specifics of individual countries in the world
Assessment criteria
The teacher prefers the following ways of working with students: - lectures - conversations on selected topics - Presentations (followed by discussion in the group) by students of articles on specific aspects of the subject
To receive treatment, the following elements are necessary: 1) Compulsory attendance. Possible number of absences: two unreasonable during the semester. Other omissions must be confirmed by medical leave. 2) Activities during the discussion of topics. 3) Oral examination in the subject area and reading.
