The aim of the course is to lead students towards the mastery of the English language to communicate freely in everyday life situations at B1 level:
The student understands the importance of the main threads contained in complex statements on specific and abstract topics, including substantive discussions in the field of her specialization.
The student is able to communicate fluently and spontaneously to conduct a conversation with a native speaker of a given language, without any special effort of either party.
The student is able to formulate clear, detailed statements while explaining his point of view on a given topic and considering the advantages and disadvantages of different options. The student can communicate effectively in face-to-face situations. (speaking)
The student can understand a range of spoken material, such as news programs, presentations, and daily conversations. (listening and comprehension)
The student is able to read various types of texts, such as books, newspapers and magazines. (reading and comprehension)
The student can write various written statements, such as a letter, report, review and essay. (writing)
Student workload:
60h hrs (2 ECTS)
organized hours - 2 hours weekly x 1 semester = 30 hours (1 ECTS)
student's independent work - 15 hours of preparation for classes (0,5 ECTS), 15 hours of preparation for the exam (0,5 ECTS)

The student knows and understands the spoken and written English language in accordance with the requirements specified for the B2 + level of the European System for the Description of Languages Education (K1_W10)
The student is able to communicate in speech and writing in English in accordance with the requirements specified for the B2 + level of the European System for the Description of Languages Education (K1_U10)
The student is ready to critically evaluate the knowledge and content received (K1_K01)
Assessment criteria
Conditions for passing the course and admitting to the final pass, evaluation components:
- continuous assessment, shaping:
- control and translation tests - 50%
- group and individual presentations - 50%
the final pass consists of the written part:
Written credit, where the evaluation criteria are presented in the form of percentage thresholds:
60% - 68% - 3 (satisfactory)
69% - 77% - 3+ (satisfactory plus)
78% - 86% - 4 (good)
87% - 93% - 4+ (good plus)
94% - 98% - 5 (very good)
99% -100% - 5! (Very good rating with an exclamation mark)
condition for being admitted to a subject / final credit: attendance
The student has the right to 2 unexcused absences, each subsequent one requires a justification. The lecturer decides whether to acknowledge the absence.
The form of crediting the classes in which the student was absent is determined by the lecturer.
Exceeding justified and unjustified absences for 50% of classes may be the basis for failing the course.
If it is not possible to conduct classes in a stationary form, classes will be conducted using distance communication tools, most likely ZOOM, CLASSROOM and others recommended by the University of Warsaw.
