Theory and Practice of the Belarusian-Russian translation 3221-S2-0BR21A
During most of the course there will be considered contemporary translation theories and main directions of translations studies . During the course linguistic, formalistic, hermeneutical, psycholinguistic and other tendencies, will be presented and the main schools of translation will be discussed. The knowledge gained during the course, students will confront with selected fragments of text in the field of translation theory and evaluate their meaning during debate. The second part of the course will be devoted to Belarusian translation studies trends - students learn the main schools, the most important interpreters and learn about the history of the largest projects of Belarusian-Russian translation relations. Some classes will be devoted to the Belarusian translations of Russian literature - on the background of specific translations will be shown the main trends in this type of activity and considered their cause.

After completing the course, student:
1. KNOWLEDGE:
- knows on advanced level the subject and methodology characteristics and the advanced terminology used in literary and language studies.
- knows the main literary and language studies theories and philological researching methods
- defines the main directions of Belarusian studies.
- has the knowledge concerning the process of literary language forming in Belarus
- understands the territorial conditions of the process of Belarusian language differentiation
- has the advance knowledge concerning the subject and methodology characteristics and the advanced terminology used in translation studies
- knows and understands main terms and rules concerning copyright law and the necessity of managing the intellectual property resources
2. SKILLS:
- can use the advanced linguistic terms during the process of language occurrences analysis
- can use advanced translation terms during the analysis of translations from Polish into Belarusian and from Belarusian into Polish
- can prepare individual analysis of translations from Polish into Belarusian and from Belarusian into Polish, concerning and comparing moderns developments in this field
- can evaluate the meaning of particular translators from Polish into Belarusian and from Belarusian into Polish in the context of their influence of Polish-Belarusian cultural exchange
- can individually gain knowledge and develop own researching skills useful in future profession
3. SOCIAL COMPETENCES:
Assessment criteria
The completion of the course determines the activity of a student in the classroom (the ability to present in an analytical manner the theoretical articles discussed during the course, commenting reading texts, detection research problems). Final rating is awarded on the basis of a writing test considering the topics discussed in class.
