Belarusian language for specific purposes 3221-30SB31C

During the course the problems of theory and practise of specialist vocabulary are showed. The course introduces specialist language term and makes the classification of the vocabulary according to their fields of using. The semantic processes of modern specialist vocabulary and terminology are discussed. The education includes showing the models of specialist texts and the examples of documents and official letters (the field of law, economy, trade, etc). Furthermore, problems of specialist texts translation from Belarusian language is discussed and intercultural aspects of specialist text translation and teaching specialist languages are also discussed.

Prerequisites (description)

Students shoud pass the examination of Practical Belarusian on the first and a second year of studying and pass the exam of Descriptive grammar of Belarusian language.

Learning outcomes

The student should:
- identify and classify texts for specific purposes,
- know the specialized lexicon in selected areas,
- construct linguistically correct oral or written statements on discussed topics,
- make translations of texts for specific purposes from Belarusian language in selected areas,
- obtain and process information of Belarusian language,
- be able to recognize patterns of basic Belarusian documents
- define the main features of official documents,
- identify the basic principles of creating documents
- identify and correct formal, stylistic and grammatical mistakes in the text for specific purposes

Assessment criteria

- continuous evaluation, during the semester contol tests
- evaluating individual and group presentations
Conditions for passing the course:
- presence and active participation in class
- systematic preparation for classes specified material
- timely making homeworks and control works
- active participation in creating presentations and speeches
- passing the oral and writen examination.
