World literature 3221-30LP12K
The aim of the course is to show students the continuity of literature tradition and to introduce to them cultural context that is necessary to understand contemporary literature. The course contains of two parts. The firs one is a repetition and increasing of the knowledge about history of world literature they had gain during the higher education (particularly ancient sources, commonly known tropes and more important literature characters such as Don Kichot, Hamlet or Faustus). The second part is the discussion over chosen literature works from XIX and XX centuries in the context of history of the literature with particular attention paid on the role and meaning of the work ant the author for his own literature development and for the development of widely understood world culture.

Learning outcomes
Student:
- can characterized historical literary process in European literatures;
- can give periodization of individual national literatures;
- knows the characteristics of various periods and literary movements;
- knows the representatives of individual national literatures;
- can discuss a literary work from the point of view in terms of content and formal-problem and put them on the background of the history of literature.
Assessment criteria
In the final evaluation it will be taken into account the activity of a student in the class (including the quality of the prepared papers on a chosen topic or issue), attendance, and at the end of the semester oral exam containing the whole material discussed in class.
