Belarusian language territory studies 3221-20WK11K
The subjects of the course includes the development of Belarusian studies and chosen topics referred to the knowledge of Belarus. It includes information about Slavs ethnogenesis, the origin and the development of Belarusian nation, ethnic features, mentality of the Belarusians, characteristic of language and mental and material culture. The outlines of well-known historical and social figures, culture and art creators, their works and contribution in the promotion of national ideas in the state and world are showed. Chosen topics on ethnography and folklore: rites and customs, traditional handicrafts, beliefs, ornamental art etc. are discussed. The particular attention is paid on the modern culture of Belarus, the contribution of emigration, Belarusian ethnic minority in Poland and other minorities that live on the territory of Belarus in its culture.

Learning outcomes
After graduating the course, student:
- knows the ethnogenesis and culture anthropology of Belarusians in the historical and geopolitical context;
- has knowledge of material and spiritual culture of Belarusians, including Belarusian literature, art;
- has a basic knowledge of the history of Belarus, religious denominations and national minorities;
- knows how to identify and interpret the stages of development of Belarusian language and literature;
- knows how to use cultural and historical contexts in interpreting the current situation of Belarus and its development prospects;
- can incorporate knowledge of Belarusian culture in terms of ethnic and historical process;
- can indicate the essential features of character and mentality of the Belarusians.
Assessment criteria
Continuous evaluation, participation in classes, in discussions, interest in the subject (short performances, preparation of papers). Passing oral and written tests. The ability of argument expression, the use of recommended literature is also evaluated. Activity in class, presentation of the prepared material, the tests during the course will have an impact on passing the course, oral examination.
