Sociology 3104-L1SOC

This is an introduction to sociology. At the end of the course the participants are expected to understand why the sociology may be useful to historians. The idea is to explain them that the sociology should take into consideration the past centuries too, and, vice versa, the historian should generalize. The following topics will be discussed:

- The change in the symbolism of the streets at Warsaw after the fall of communism.
- History as a part of the political landscape of the country.
- The birth of a man, as seen by the social sciences.
- The socialization of a child.
- Most people marry.
- Nearly all people reside somewhere.
- Nearly all people dress.
- People eat and drink.
- People speak between themselves.
- People frequently believe in God.
- People usually dream of something.
- What a social role is?
- The social hierarchy.
- The social mobility.
- The national phenomenon.
- The national minorities.
- The social movements.
- The migrations.
- How Europe dominated the world?
- The people in the natural environment.
- The symbolic meaning of some places on Earth.
