Practical Lithuanian C2 3020-1B2PLI
The purpose of the course is to consolidate and expand the language proficiency acquired at C1 level.
This aim is achieved through consolidating the most difficult points of grammar and stylistics throughout different registers of language communication.
The students develop and improve their skills in creating written texts (reportage, press article on a topic of one’s choice addressed to two types of readers, publisher’s note, review of an article, working notes from oral presentation, television programme or interview) as well as oral texts (press release, book presentation, public speech).
The students expand their vocabulary in various domains (especially professional and technical vocabulary as well as special vocabulary of selected branches of science). They develope their skills in analyzing and properly interpreting specialist publications and lectures, their ability of using idioms and collocations, technical and colloquial vocabulary. They improve their ability of understanding technical instructions. Thye read publicistic texts concerning contemporary problems of Lithuania, Poland and the world.
Estimated number of hours required for the achievement of the learning outcome defined for the course:
a) number of contact hours: 90;
b) current preparation for courses: 60 hours;
c) preparation of longer class papers and oral presentations: 30 hours;
d) preparation for term-final test and final examination 30 hours.

Learning outcomes
On completion of the course the student:
(KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS)
– utters himself or herself fluently and in a precise and spontaneous way on all topics of general interest in writing and speech; utters himself or herself on special topics after preliminary preparation;
– adapts the style of his/her written or oral statements to the potential interlocutor, giving the text a logical structure and making it understandable to the addressee;
– summarizes and critically interprets the contents of texts from mass media and the contents of articles from specialist journals;
– offers an analysis, synthesis of proper interpretation of specialist lectures and utterances containing colloquial speech and hitherto unknown terminology;
– uses his/her own resources to cope with language problems by reformulating his/her utterances in a way unnoticeable to the interlocutor;
– creates long texts of his/her own (press articles, reportages, argumentative or polemical texts) with a predominance of complex sentences and differentiated linguistic means;
(ATTITUDES)
– realises the importance of civilized tone and ethical level of utterance;
– realises the importance of active engagement in the learning process (works systematically, enriches his/her active and passive vocabulary, looks for ways of independent further self-instruction);
– uses the acquired knowledge and skills for practical purposes (by writing and publishing texts of his/her own, and by performing translation task under the supervision of the teacher)
Assessment criteria
The student is expected regularly to attend classes (one absence per term and per teacher is allowed) and to obtain term credits from each of the teachers at C2 level (for the winter term – before the end of the winter term reexamination session at the latest, for the summer term – before the day of the written examination).
Aspects of assessment:
a) current preparation for classes and activity during classes;
b) class papers and oral presentations (press article, reportage, report, public speech, book presentation);
c) written grammar and vocabulary test (at the close of the winter term);
d) examination (written and oral in the summer term).
The written part of the examination tests the student’s ability to use grammatical forms correctly, his/her knowledge of special vocabulary, idiomatic expressions and collocations as well as his/her ability to create texts of his/her own (argumentative or polemical texts) using the factual and linguistic knowledge accumulated during the course (use of differentiated language means, conformity with the demands of the given functional variety of language).
During the oral part of the examination the student’s ability to understand and critically interpret a relatively complex text is assessed, as well as his/her ability to converse fluently on a relatively difficult topic (e.g., contemporary issues in his/her country or the world).
