Practical Lithuanian B2 3020-1A3PLI
The aim of the classes is:
a) to develop the ability of listening to, and reading with understanding, fairly complicated, longer non-specialist texts in standard Lithuanian (press articles, texts on cultural themes and popularizing texts);
b) to expand and enrich active and passive vocabulary from various thematic domains (socio-political, economical and legal);
c) to consolidate the practical knowledge of the functions of cases, to develop the ability of correct use of previously learnt grammatical forms (especially participles, numerals and pronouns), to master the principles of spelling (writing of former nasal vowels in the stem, use of j, joint and separate writing of the particles gi, ne, nebe, writing of compound names of offices and institutions).
d) to improve pronunciation and accentuation;
e) to develop the ability of fluent speech and writing on previously introduced topics.
Emphasis is on the composition of written texts answering certain requirements (theme, form, purpose, style; selection of appropriate lexemes, logical structure of argumentation and succinctness of composition). The students learn to edit texts in linguistic, stylistic and orthographical respect. They present orally a text of their own, prepared in advance (e. g. a sports commentary).
One of the forms of teaching is discussion, during which the participants learn to formulate their own opinions on various subjects of public life (discussion on topical questions of social, cultural and political life of Lithuania, Poland, the world).
The estimated number of hours the student should devote in order to achieve the learning outcomes as defined for the course is:
a) contact hours: 180 h.;
b) current preparation for classes: 90 h.;
c) preparation of elaborate class papers and oral presentations: 60 h.;
d) preparation for term test and final examination: 30 h..

On completion of the course the student:
(KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS)
– understands from hearing most of the information in a continuous text read by a speaker of standard Lithuanian;
– reads texts from Lithuanian language periodicals and Internet sites, selects information and summarizes it in class, explaining new words and expressions;
– prepares and presents a sports commentary, using the adequate terminology and the appropriate tempo of speech;
– argues his / her views during discussion; is able to make utmost use of familiar words and forms in communication (uses synonymous constructions and periphrases);
– uses grammatical forms (oblique cases, participles, numerals and pronouns) in oral statements and written texts, making gradually less mistakes;
– writes an argumentative text on an imposed theme, and edits it, correcting mistakes
– knows the basic principles of accentuation and tries to apply them when speaking, so as to be understood by other users of Lithuanian
(AWARENESS)
– cares for correct and aesthetically adequate usage;
– realizes the need of active participation in the learning process; works systematically, independently looks for information on topics of interest, enriches his / her active and passive vocabulary.
Assessment criteria
Correct and fluent plying of communication means, lexical source adequate to the level, correct spelling and punctuation, knowledge of the bases o stylistic using of discussed words and constructions, writing and hearing text understanding, correct accentuation.
Final exam should be receive from all lecturers of this subject in 3rd year.
