OVERVIEW The main goal of this course is to familiarize students with practical knowledge of data analyzes.
During our lab we will learn how to choose and manage different statistical tools to solve common problems that researchers can find on their way.
To realize the goals of this course we will deal with some more sophisticated options offered by statistical package: SPSS for Windows. On this basis we will learn how to conduct and understand analyzes and how to communicate their results.
LABS Attendance at labs is obligatory.
You should not miss more than two labs during whole semester.
TEXTBOOK The textbook we will be using is Discovering statistics using SPSS by A. Field. Some additional readings will be provided by the instructor.
GRADING Your final grade will be calculated as a weighted average of the scores obtained on one short (20% of the final grade) and two larger quizzes (40% of the final grade) held in-class throughout the semester.
Each test can be corrected only once.
TOPICS 1. Three types of t-tests - revision
2. Comparing more than two Group Means - Oneway analysis of variance
3. Posthoc tests, contrasts and trends
4. Two-way analysis of variance - Main effects and interactions, simple main effects, plotting and interpreting results
5. One factor within subjects ANOVA - testing Sphericity assumption, running the analysis and interpreting results
6. Two-Way Repeated Measures ANOVA - main effects, interaction effects
7. Using syntax to compute simple main effects
8. Mixed models - main effects and interaction, simple main effects
9. Linear regression and multiple linear regression - interpreting regression coefficients, Interpreting R-Square statistic, using regression model as a prediction tool
10. Reliability analysis - verifying / improving internal consistency - Cronbach's Alpha coefficient
