Management 2400-PP3ZAR
A 60-hours lecture is divided to 15 topics, as described below. The lecture covers all the topics belonging to the international canon of management as a university lecture and is further enriched with issues of a big significance for enterprises operating in highly-competitive markets: risk management and quality management. It is estimated that a student should spend app. 60 hours of self-study to achieve the expected learning outcomes. The course covers:
1. Introduction to management. The idea of an organization.
2. The management as an activity and as a field of knowledge
3. Trends and schools in management sciences
4. Formulating the organizational strategy
5. Designing the organizational structure
6. Informative and decisive processes in an organization
7. National culture and organizational culture
8. Personal policy - effective human resources management
9. Human capital, intelectual capital and social capital of an organization
10. Strategies of knowledge-based organizations
11. Quality management
12. Risk management
13. The managers - managerial and lidership skills and competences
14. Management of changes and conflicts
15. Concepts and principles of control function in management

Learning outcomes
Upon the course completion a student is able to:
- describe an organization with regard to systemic approach
- describe an enterprise as an organization
- characterise various trends and schools in management science
- perform a strategic anylysis of an enterprise's situation
- identify and describe the organizational structure of an entity
- specify advantages and disadvantages of both individual and group decision making process
- describe various types of human resources management policies
- characterise the meaning and significance of human, intelectual and social capital for an organization
- enlist the characteristics of a knowledge-based organization
- distuguish between various quality management systems
- identifies basic fields of risk for an enterprise
- analyse managerial and lidership styles
- describe different approaches towards management of change and conflicts
- identify functions and types of control in process of management

Assessment criteria
The effects of learning are evaluated by a written exam, which consists of two parts: test (single-choice questions and true/false questions) and an essay. To pass the test a student must acquire a minimum of 50% of points for test and at the same time a minimum of 50% of points for the whole exam (including an essay). The test result accounts for 40% and the essay result for 60% of final points.
