Prerequisites (description)

In 1900, Swedish author Ellen Key (1849-1926) published her famous book "The Century of the Child" (Barnets århundrade) - one of the most revolutionary books on children education. Was the twentieth century really "the century of the child"? Did it actually happen? The lecture is an attempt to balance and critical response to those questions by analyzing fragments of historical sources (including moovies).

During the lectures, students become familiar with key topics, research questions, methods and workshop humanist work - on the example, research on the history of childhood in the twentieth century. Lectures are to develop in students the ability to think deeper humanistic - pedagogical and historical - as well as a knowledge of the historical criticism of the different types of source materials (textbooks, journals, videos). The aim of the lectures is to further develop the skills of critical reading of the literature and the aspects of the scientific discussion on the history of childhood.

Assessment criteria

The pass mark for the course is next to the present, including active participation in class, write an additional essay makes it possible to improve the assessment.
