During the course students will:
- analyze and discuss the basis of reading referring to the contemporary discourses of different visions of the child and childhood and related concepts of education;
- explore the dilemmas of pedagogy in the making early childhood education purposes;
- consider the problems of learning organization referring to mastering the skills of reading, writing, mathematics , language;
- consider the principles of individualization, integration of learning content as an important determinants of the effectiveness of teacher’s educational activities;
- acquire the concept of teacher’s ideologies and their manifestations and consequences for the child and the organization of educational process;
- learn what methods and means the teacher may use to get information about the child.

After completing the course students will:
have the knowledge of:
basic contemporary discourses within early childhood education,
conditioning efficiency of early childhood education,
assumptions of early childhood education system reform;
be able to:
explain the basic concepts of child development theory in the context of contemporary cultural conditions,
refer critically to many inefficient practices in early childhood education,
use this knowledge to interpret the dilemmas of early childhood education in Poland;
have the attitude of understanding:
the teacher's responsibility in the child's education,
the need for teacher’s reflection at every stage of his work.
Assessment criteria
Grading based on an essay on issues during lectures or classes relating to studied literature and also attendance and class participation.
