General Education 2300-POG
In the course of classes the subject of analysis will be conditioning (in terms of civilisation and culture) beginnings and evolution of identity of education; the changes of relations between pedagogical theory and practice; multitude of modern pedagogics and diversifying their reception.
As the context of the above topics there is the analysis of educational implications, fundamental for educational reflection, the following ethical problems: The origin of ethics. The basic concepts, notions, oppositions. Ethics versus morality. Parts of ethics. Understanding good in ethical systems. Historical and ethical traditions. Nature of ethics - realism, intuitionism, naturalism, relativism, subjectivism. Structure of moral judgement - value, norm, obligation, sanction. Truth in ethics - justifying ethical norms. Ethical dillemas (value conflicts). Ethics versus law and custom. Moral values and professional values - professional ethical codes. Attempts and possibilities of universalitation of ethical norms (human rights ethics). Ethics and politics - ethical values versus political aims and interests. Possibility of judgement, criteria of ethical judgement of political acts. Peace as value - problem of fair war, pacifism, terrorism, fight without violence. Equality as value - interpretations of equality, equality and pluralism, conflictability pf equality.Fairness as value - interpretations of fairness, fairness and equality. Elements of bioethics: moral aspect of suffering and death, abortion, euthanasia, genetic and medical experiments. Death penalty, suicide, animal rights.

Results of education - skills and competences: interpretation of basic knowledge about development of pedagogics and educational practice (including school system) and changeability and complexity of relations between educational theory and practice; correct usage of notions referring to modern education; using basic ideas, notions and oppositions in the scope of educational and ethical reflection.
