Special Education 2300-OPSp

Aim: To introduce a new research field - Special Education and its area of interest, to point psychological and social problems of disabled, to teach students basic terms and skills especially in area of school instruction and education with disabled.
Contents: Special Education as a science, its research range and its correlation between other scientific fields. Scale of disability. Rules, methods applied in diagnosis, education, employment and family life, leisure time with disabled. Social integration concepts. Psychological and social problems of disabled in Poland and other countries and some solutions.

Prerequisites (description)

The basic terms of special needs education. The object, the content and the range of special needs education and its relations with other disciplines. The basic knowledge about the constraints and opportunities selected groups of disabled people: people with physical or mental disability, people with visual or hearing impairment, people with specific learning difficulties, people with autism, etc. Therapy in the support of children and pupils with special needs. The new legal regulations in the area of education of pupils with special needs.The concepts of social integration and normalization.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student has knowledge of:
-specific special education as a science,
-function and rehabilitation of people with various disabilities,
Student is able to:
-set of properties of special education as a science and to indicate its place in the system of sciences,
-define basic types of damage and their effects on processes different mental and physical development,
-identify the basic routes and comprehensive rehabilitation institutions for disable people.
