Biomedical basis of development and education 2300-OBPR6
Aims
1. To provide the basic knowledge concerning:
− human physical, motor and sexual growth and development,
− function of selected body systems and physiological reaction important from educational point of view,
− health and its determinants,
− the most prevalent health problems and their influence on growth, development and education,
− hygiene and ergonomics of school physical environment and organization process of teaching.
2. To help students to develop the competences in:
− identification of their health and developmental needs,
− understanding of biological needs of children and adolescents and supporting their development, health and education,
− creation enhancing health and well-being physical environment (including ergonomics) in a place of their work and learning.
Content
1. Human growth and biological development
− aspects and stages of development
− physical, and motor development (aspects, determinants, methods of assessment, secular trends, disorders)
− course of development and biological needs in different stages of human life),
− sexual development (stages, determinants, sexual behaviours, problems and disorders).
2. Selected systems and functions of human body important for process of learning (nervous system, sight, hearing, physiological basis of emotions and stress).
3. Basic biological needs of human being (nutrition, physical activity, work and rest, protection again environmental threats)
4. Health and selected health problems of children and adolescents (links between health and education, prevention of selected health problems, prevention medical care at school)
5. Teachers health protection and promotion (professional load, stress, health problems and its prevention, health promotion at work).
6. School environment and organization of school work (physical environment, healthy and higienie aspects of teaching/learning, health promoting school

After the course student will:
KNOWLEDGE
− Explains the basic terms connected with human ontogenesis: aspects of growth and development, stages, secular trends, determinants.
− Characterizes course of physical and motor development and biological needs in different stages of human life.
− Presents disorders of physical development and their influence on ability to learning and behaviours.
− Characterizes coupe of psychosexual development and its biological, psychical and socio-cultural determinants
− Has basic knowledge about anatomy and function of nervous, visual and hearing system and their influence on learning.
− Presents physiological mechanisms of emotions and stress
− Explains basic human needs and their settlement.
− Knows definitions, concepts and aspects of health and factors influencing health.
− Names the most frequent health problems of children and adolescents and their prevention.
− Names teachers’ professional threats and methods of their prevention.
− Presents elements of school physical environment and hygienic aspects of organization of teaching/learning.
− Characterizes the concept of health promoting school.
SKILLS
− Makes assessment of physical and motor development.
− Recognizes own health problems and developmental and healthy needs in early adulthood.
− Recognizes biological needs of children and adolescents and is able to support their growth, and health.
− Assesses own physical activity, nutrition and other positive health practices.
− Assesses lights, microclimate, level of nose, furniture safety, lessons timetable at school in context of health
ATTITUDES
− Understands that pedagogue should has the knowledge of human growth and development and its biological needs in different periods of life.
− Understands the importance of healthy lifestyle and good health for effective learning and good quality of life.
− Is ready to implement changes in his lifestyle and creates positive model for others.
− Understands the link between teacher well-being and pupils school achievements and well-being.
Assessment criteria
Credits of seminars:
− no more than two absence, In the case of next absence additional tasks after agreement with seminar facilitator
− positive grades from all initial tests,
− performing two from individual or group tasks
− positive grades of two quizes
Egzamination
Answer three questions with the list of questions given to students in the beginning of the course
