Mathematical Education 2300-N-EMA

The classes aim at teaching students the basic issues connected with the developing and building of mathematical notions and skills in early school children, among other themes including:
" the goals and tasks of school at the 1st stage of education, particular attention being paid to developing mathematical skills;
" constructivist approach to the development of mathematical skills;
" the methods of creating and utilizing realistic situations which stimulate child's mathematical creativity;
" the methods of solving text problems;
" the role of games in the development of mathematical skills in children and in implementing general tasks of the school;
" the process of building the notion of number and developing proficiency in arithmetic;
" the process of designing and arranging educational situations at school.
