Issues of child care 2300-FPO-ASK
The course focuses on the following issues:
•Getting to know the new trends in child and family care and protection system in Poland and EU countries,
•Getting to know the child care system in Poland including the family and institutional (residential) forms.
The areas of interest:
1.Children and youth in care.
Barriers/dangers for children development and functioning. The system of care and prevention – present and future. Caring for small children.
2.Child deprived of parental care.
The consequences of child’s separation from mother/parents.
3.Functioning of various forms of foster and residential (institutional) care. (Adoption, foster family, children’s village, residential care institutions)
4.Problem of children without care. Day care institutions and working with child and its family.

Learning outcomes
KNOWLEDGE:
•Knows the barriers / risks for development and functioning of children (family, educational, social, health, legal, welfare),
•Knows the new trends in the system of care and support/assistance for children and family,
•Knows the legal basis and organization of various forms of child care provided outside the family,
•Enumerates the positive and negative aspects of functioning of foster and residential forms of child care.
SKILLS:
•Recognizes the needs of children and the difficulties in meeting them,
•Identifies the differences between various forms of child care,
•Selects appropriate forms of care to the specific situation of the child and its family.
ATTITUDES:
•Responds to situations involving the need of child and family assistance,
•Promotes innovative forms of childcare in the local environment.
Assessment criteria
•Attendance
•By coursework: (reading literature, doing exercises at home etc.)
•Individual presentation of the chosen topic,
•A test in the end of course.
