History of Polish State and Law:
The lecture and classes are held in an order based on chronology and problem issues in four sections. 1. Legal history of Poland until partitions (periodization, territory, society and estate structures, monarchy, origins and development of parliamentary system, administration of justice, private and criminal laws and litigation) will be discussed in the winter term. 2. issues of evolution of law and political system in partitioned Poland (e.g. Duchy of Warsaw, constitutional period of Kingdom of Poland, Galicia 1861 – 1914, The summer tern will deal with: modern administration and local government, administration courts, systems of laws, especially Code of Napoleon) and 3. the Second Republic of Poland (political system 1918 – 39, administration, administration of justice, unification and codification of law).Polish State during World War II. 4. Polish People's Republic: constitution, law, administration - hiatus between theory and practice.

Prerequisites (description)

History of Polish State and Law: Objective of the subject: gaining knowledge about history of Polish legal and political institutions, so that students could better understand contemporary political and legal system and acquiring elements of legal culture, indispensible for practicing lawyer.

Learning outcomes

Student will be able to:
KNOWLEDGE
1.Describe how the law is created in historical and social context
2. Know technical terminology, learn legal language, define basic legal institutions in their historical shape
SKILLS
1. Explain genesis and aim of particular legal solutions
2. Do exegesis of simple legal text (oral and written)
3. Recognize legal problem and propose its solution
4. Justify his opinion in dispute
5. Apply the historical interpretation of contemporary issues
ATTITUDES
1. See law as response to requirements of a particular society, understand the difference between law and ethic attitudes of the society
2. Understand and refer critically to presented legal solutions
3. Accept diversity of scientific views about legal institutions and issues

Assessment criteria

History of Polish State and Law:
Final examination. To take the examination student is required to complete mandatory classes from the subject. The examination has four forms:
1. Oral exam for students, who completed the classes and achieved at least 4 (good) mark
2. Written exam (three types of questions: test, open questions and cases)
3. Written exam “open book exam”. Questions in the form of open cases to solve. Possibility of use of indicated textbooks and sources.
