The class is designed to:
- provide a systematic knowledge of national political systems of selected European countries
- provide skills of comparing the power related authorities in different political systems, and the analysis of their performance in internal and external environment
- provide a unified conceptual grid needed to understand national political systems in these countries

Prerequisites (description)

Required is knowledge obtained from the previously taken courses: - State and Politics, - Introduction to the European studies, - Political and economic geography. Communicative English skills also needed facilitating the use of foreign literature

Learning outcomes

Knowledge (40%)

• The student has factual knowledge of the selected political systems.
• The student knows the basic terminology of the course, is aware of the constitutional standards which are political, administrative and judicial capacity in Europe, and knows the source of these standards, their characteristics, evolution and impact on the behavior of societies.

Skills (30%):
U06 and U02, U05, U07, U10, U12
• The student is able to analyze the structures and institutions at the national level, and compare them to other related areas
• The student is able to recognize the constitutional and political issues involving the authority of the individual at the national level and is able to propose their alternatives
• The student has the ability to argue the merits of political systems using a specialized network of concepts and language.

Social skills (30%):
K06 and K01, K04, K08
• The student understands the conditionality of national political systems, is able to critically address selected institutional solutions.
• The student is able to actively participate in civil society, in variety of grassroots initiatives, consciously considering their socio-political implications.
• Student is able to predict the development of selected national political systems, independently gain additional knowledge of the subject and be socially active.

Assessment criteria

- Mandatory attendance and class participation (recorded activity for at least half of the classes held)
- Test as a condition of credit for lack of activity in the classroom.
- Presentation in the form of multimedia and an evaluation of a colleague multimedia presentation
- Parliamentary debate
