Introduction to strategic studies 2104-M-Z3WSDS
The course covers following issues:
- brief history of strategic thought from the ancient China and Rome to contemporary,
- in the part which deals with the past special emphasis is given to the Napoleonian and Clausewitzian breakthrough, II World War, strategies of revolution (communism) and western strategies of containment,
- contemporary strategic problems are presented through the prism of nuclear deterrence, strategies of politico-military alliances and security communities, state/grand strategies and crisis management (f. ex. Kosovo war),
- separate place is occupied by today’s strategic controversies around war on terror and pursuit of hegemonic ambitions (wars in Afganistan and Iraq),
- the course is completed with the presentation of the Polish thought, past and present, and problems of strategic culture in the contemporary, post-communist Poland.
