Learning outcomes

After completing Basics of Sociology course a student:

Knowledge
 can enumerate and understand basic sociological terms,
 possesses knowledge on selected social problems especially problems related to modern Polish society,
 understands relationships between social wholes on different levels of social life,

Skills
 applies basic sociological terms to description and analysis of social reality in both oral and written statements,
 can characterize selected modern and classical sociological theories,
 has an ability to critically interpret sociological scientific texts, in a form of both, oral and written statements,
 possesses basic competences to assess sociological research results,
 can apply acquired knowledge to analysis as well as explanation of new social facts and s/he can make generalizations about conclusions drawn (annual written assignment),

Attitudes
 recognizes the category of social order as independent value,
 critically and multilaterally evaluates social phenomena.

Assessment criteria

Basic requirement for successfully completing the course is presence on lectures and seminars. Seminars in winter and in summer semester end with a written test. Preparation for seminars and taking active part in discussions are main conditions to obtain credit. Basic sociology course ends with a written exam in a form of a test. Moreover, in the summer semester students are required to submit a written annual paper which will contain the conditions set by the tutor. All of the requirements above have an impact on student’s final grade.
