Ethics of Journalism and Public Relations 2101-L-D5ETDZ-PRMM
Subject includes the following elements:
• Analysis of the public relations task areas with particular emphasis on lobbying, sponsorship, relations with local communities, crisis management and media relations.
• moral implications arising from the essence of PR (information, image, shape and create opinion and the truth, confidentiality, freedom, human dignity).
• Basic assumptions of ethics in public relations. The concept of ethical standards.
• PR Industry and ethics. Public Relations Board of Ethics and its impact on regulation and enforcement of ethical standards in Polish public relations. Seven Main Sins of Polish PR.
• Codes of ethics and their creation. Organizational codes of conduct. Code of Ethics of the Public Relations Polish Association and the Code of Good Practices of Public Relations Companies Association. International Codes.
• Ethical standards and discredit practices and "black PR."
• Legal standards and ethical standards in the business and PR relationships.
• Ethics in journalism. Relations with the media. Ethical aspects of the information materials design.
• Companies ethical programs. The problem of fair competition. Institutions standing as the guardian of the professional ethics standards.

1. understands what is the responsibility of PR person in the context of the ethical codes,
2. understands the importance of ethics in PR profession.
Assessment criteria
The student receives a passing grade on the basis of three criteria: participation in classes, the activity and test. It is required to obtain 51% of the points of the test. In addition, students can get points for class participation. Accepted is one unauthorized absence in a class, two absences will decrease the final grade by one mark, three absences = failing the course.
