Illustrated Magazine Editing Specialization 2101-L-D4SRMK-DZIEN
Classes prepare for work in editing illustrated magazines. Courses are to make students aware how to meet expectations of future employer, which in the near future will await students, what requirements must be met when applying for a job in one of the illustrated magazines. Classes are to reveal the mechanisms of functioning of large press corporations, and also show the latest trends.
Classes are devoted mainly to the publications, in practice, what is editor’s every day job, what is work in one of the color newspapers. Courses present the selection of topics, formulation of titles, text editing - creating special allowances, cooperation with the photo department and graphics (the selection of photos, creating computer graphics, layout concepts), cooperation with agencies, PR and advertising departments (drafting received materials, sponsored, contextual, etc.), responding to editor’s letters, keep in touch with readers, etc. All in relation to the current policy of publishing in the context of expected developments.

Knowledge:
The student knows the profile and portfolio of the largest newspaper publishers in the country knows the Polish market magazines, knows their successes and failures, is able to characterize a group of recipients, is oriented in the segments, has knowledge of famous foreign magazines, knows their creators, the loudest materials and photographic sessions, knows what is the editorial and what the responsibilities of individual members of the editorial team are; knows what the path of rapid reading, knows the rules of editing.
Skills:
The student knows how to assess writing, artwork, note the weak and good points, propose changes for the better. He can work on the text, ordered him or to work with the author, work with graphic designer; student knows how to edit text: shorten it, correct, suggest a title, lead, frame, headings. He can choose the most interesting texts in the issue and offer previews on the cover, make a table of contents, announce the next issue.

Student can sense the needs and expectations of the reader, do the model assessment, the selection of images to text, organization of photo session
Assessment criteria
In the criteria of assessment: attendance (twice in semester absence is allowed), activity, prepared tasks plus keeping with the deadlines.
