Social determinants of urban regeneration 1900-7-SUR-UIR
Introduction to the most important social themes concerning urban regeneration. The social aspects of regeneration programmes include: planned and spontaneous spatial processes, their stakeholders and interest groups, local identity forming and community processes. The course introduces also data sources and methods that can be used to explore and asses local contexts and programmes. Special attention is devoted to the modes of participation of inhabitants and others in regeneration processes.

Students have the knowledge and understanding of planned and spontaneous urban processes, are can point to their impact on regeneration processes; understand the complexity of identity and collective memory; have the knowledge of the social consequences of regeneration programmes and know the methods to study them (S2_W02, S2_W03, S2_W04, S2_W06, S2_W09).
Students know how to identify local specificities, which need to be taken into account before any regeneration processes could be undertaken; they have a repertoire of study methods and are able to propose participation options and assess predicted social impacts of future interventions (S2_U01, S2_U09, S2_U10, S2_U11).
Students understand the need to cooperate with other professionals, representatives of public institutions, non for profit and informal organizations in the regeneration processes (S1_K01, S1_K02, S1_K04, S1_K07).
