Theoretical concepts are illustrated by examples from Canada, Scotland, Germany, the Netherlands and elsewhere.

Learning outcomes
Knowledge. Student identifies the most important values of urban heritage. Describes key instruments of legal and social protection of those values. Based on cartographic and photographic material assesses origin, style and values of urban heritage. Understands the scope and limits of legal protection, differentiates between approaches of protecting cultural landscape and recalls various examples.
Skills. Student gathers and selects historical sources, analyzes them critically against current functions, uses, standard and condition of a historic site. Is able to evaluate current forms of protection and propose improvements.
Social competences. Improves skills of working in a group and negotiating goals and tasks among group members, as well as presenting outcomes of this work.
Assessment criteria
There are various tasks to be completed individually or in small groups in the course of the semester. Final grade is an average of those partial grades.
