Field course of geology of mineral deposits 1300-OKGZ3L1
The field course goal is to broaden students' knowledge of Polish mineral deposits, their origin and regional and local settings. The trip is carried out in two Polish regions: the Silesian-Krakow and the Lower Silesian. Students can learn about the geology of different mineral deposits, as well as about the geological and mining conditions of their extraction. Students visit a number of classic underground mines and open pits, including Zn-Pb mines near Olkusz, Cu-Ag mines of the Legnica-Głogów Copper Region, the hard coal mine "Siersza", the brown coal mine "Turoszów", and several open pits of industrial minerals such as limestone, dolomite, sand, clay and building stones. Students are also taught about the Krzeszowice Graben and the pre-Sudetic Monocline geology. In addition the field course is a great opportunity for students to meet a number of professionals in the minerals industry and to discover how individual mining companies operate.
