Geoinformatics in geology 1300-OGING3CW
Lectures are focused on the practical application of the methods of geoinformatics, but the basic theoretical knowledge is essential here for the correct application of various technologies in the creation, processing and usage of geospatial information.
In lectures, students get acquainted with:
- basic concepts of geoinformation and their mutual relationships,
- the paradigm of geomatics - the scientific and technical disciplines dealing the general aspect of spatial-time geodata,
- types of geoinformation and their corresponding forms of storage,
- methods of obtaining geological geodata - in the field, with archival documents and through infrastructure geoinformatics,
- available geoinformation products used in geological works,
- computer software used for geoinformation, including GIS systems and their interaction with CAD,
- methods of obtaining data for the geology using the services network WMS, WMTS, WFS and WCS.
During exercise, students apply practical methods of geoinformation in work in the field of geology, and in particular to know:
- architecture, work rules, and user interface systems geoinformatics (GIS),
- basic operations performed on the vector data,
- basic operations on raster data (cellular, matrix),
- the processing of the results into a form suitable for publication.

Learning outcomes
After completing the course (lectures and exercises), student will have basic (theoretical and practical) knowledge of geoinformatics and geomatics, and will know:
- basic concepts of geoinformation and their relationship
- the paradigm of geomatics - the scientific and technical disciplines dealing
the general aspect of spatial-time geodata and technologies to it,
- types of geoinformation and appropriate forms of writing for them,
- available products used in geoinformatics geological works,
- computer software used for geo-information in this GIS systems and their interaction with CAD,
- methods of obtaining data for the geology using the services network WMS, WMTS, WFS and WCS,
- architecture, work rules, and user interface systems geoinformatics (GIS),
- basic operations performed on the vector data,
- basic operations on raster data (cellular, matrix),
- the processing of the results into a form suitable for publication.
Assessment criteria
Student should participate in every classes. Three excused absences are allowed provided the student completes the unaccomplished work on their own.
One grade is obtained per lecture and exercises. The necessary condition is to pass the exercises (20 points out of 40 possible). After obtaining it, the student proceeds to the colloquium from the lecture from which he can get a maximum of 20 points. The final grade results from the total number of points. In the case of passing a re-test, students re-pass those parts of the subject from which they obtained less than 50% of points. In the case of passing the exercise part, the improvement consists in a test at the computer.
