Analysis of sedimentary basins I 1300-OBS4C
Classes
The classes are focused on facies analysis and reconstruction of depositional systems of carbonate and clastic sediments in various sedimentary environments. Elements of sequence stratigraphy and reconstructions of sediments diagenesis based on geochemical analyses are also introduced. The classes include also modelling of depositional processes taking place in sedimentary basins with the use of computer modelling, based on the variability of such parameters as: subsidence rate, input of clastic material, sea level fluctuations and carbonate production.

Classes
The student draws litofacial-bathymetric cross-cuts based on presented lithological profiles. He reconstructs the depositional history of the basin and identifies the causes of facial changes, taking into account tectonic and eustatic phenomena. The student interprets oxygen and carbon isotopic values in terms of the depositional environment of the sediments and their diagenesis. He performs the modelling of depositional processes in the sedimentary basin with the use of a computer programme basing on the variability of basic controlling parameters.
Assessment criteria
Classes - grading based on evaluation of written materials prepared individually during the classes.
