Methods of Organic Compounds Identification Laboratory B 1200-1MIZOBL5
The goal of the course is to learn the ability to:
- use chemical and physical methods of identification of simple organic compounds,
- perform chemical reactions identifying functional groups - determining physical properties of a compound,
- apply chromatography to identify simple organic compounds; choose thin-layer chromatography conditions,
- apply chemical methods to separate components of simple organic compounds, isolate biological material components and obtain active components from pharmaceuticals,
- apply column chromatography to separate components of mixtures of natural compounds (choosing conditions, adsorbents and eluents),
- apply UV-Vis spectroscopy to identify biological material components,
- compare experimental data with literature,
- analyze spectral data, identify compounds basing on infrared (IR) spectra and 1H NMR, 13C NMR nuclear magnetic resonance spectra.
Excercise list:
Exercise 1. Reactions identifying functional groups.
Exercise 2. Identification of unknown organic compound.
Exercise 3. Separate and identification of components of mixture of two organic compounds.
Exercise 4. Application of thin-layer chromatography to identify components of mixture of two solid organic compounds.
Exercise 5. Isolation and separation of biological material components.
