Organic Chemistry 1200-112CHOR
The lecture covers: the structure, nomenclature, preparation and reactivity (with particular emphasis on reaction mechanisms) of selected organic compounds according to their functional groups: alkanes, alkenes, aromatic compounds, alkyl halides, alcohols, amines, aldehydes and ketones, carboxylic acids and their derivatives. The topics discussed include: stereochemistry and stereoisomers, aromaticity, reaction mechanisms: free radical substitution, addition, electrophilic substitution, nucleophilic substitution, elimination, nucleophilic substitution to the carbonyl group.

Learning outcomes
After completing the lecture series, students should have a basic understanding of the reactivity of organic compounds and understand the relationships between the structure and reactivity of organic molecules.
In particular, graduates will know and understand:
K_W08 advanced knowledge of organic chemistry and biochemistry: nomenclature, structure of organic compounds, chemical reactions, reaction mechanisms, methods of obtaining, occurrence and application of organic compounds. They understand the importance of chemical phenomena in processes occurring in living nature.
K_W01
basic knowledge in selected areas of biotechnology and understands the relationships and dependencies between different natural science disciplines.
Graduates are able to
K_U08 analyse problems in the field of organic chemistry, including investigating the mechanisms of organic reactions. They are able to plan simple syntheses of selected organic compounds.
Assessment criteria
A written exam or, in the case of absence, a make-up exam. The exam is open-ended. Passing the course requires a score above 60%.
The course can be completed with two partial tests, with a total score above 60%.
Two absences are permitted.
Total student workload:
-class participation: 30 hours
-class preparation: 20 hours
-consultations with lecturers: 10 hours
