Gender and Work 3500-FAKANG-GW
The seminar aim is to present introduction to the debate on the relation between gender and work with an intersectional approach. In the course we will analyse the gendered division of labour, the masculinized and feminized jobs and gender segregation on the labour market, mechanisms of discrimination and gendering organization in its various aspects – barriers, glass ceilings and walls, communication, negotiations and leadership, and opportunities for diversity and change.
We will discuss gender with regard to class and race in order to see the variety of gendering mechanisms in the economy, on labour market and in organizations. We will study different sectors and different jobs, discuss the relation between production and reproduction, role of the state in gendering work and the terrains of struggle – gendered character of workers’ organizing. We will discuss the opportunities and obstacles for more equality at the workplace.
Students will be expected to prepare short presentations with use of various sources – texts, films or pictures.
Each seminar will be dedicated to discussion of literature of the subject.

Presentation and essay
To the hours allocated for classes in the room (30h) should be added the time necessary to prepare for classes (reading, reading notes) - 4h and the time necessary to prepare for the final credit (writing a final essay) - 10h
two absences possible, greater number of absences - need to make a note from the text discussed in the classes in which they did not participate
improvement - taking into account the comments made in the thesis which failed to pass the exam
