MA Seminar: Aspects of American Literary Culture 4219-ZS110-AM
The seminar proceeds by joint discussion of readings used by individual participants in their projects and joint discussion of participants' own work (plans, bibliographies, chapter drafts).
Participants agree with instructor a common reading list based on their research interests and individual projects. These readings are then discussed by the seminar group, especially with regard to how they relate to individual projects.
Participants present their chapter drafts to the group. Other participants receive and read the drafts ahead of a seminar meeting. They are obligated to comment on the drafts and offer helpful advice regarding, for example, the structure and the argument, and suggest potential sources.

Participants become experts in the subject are of their Masters project.
SKILLS:
Participants are capable of library research, formulating research question, postulating and arguing a thesis.
Participants are capable of selecting and properly documenting their sources.
Participants are capable of writing a thesis in keeping with academic standards and in the correct register.
COMPETENCES:
Participants are capable of presenting their work to the group. They can also comment on other participants' projects in an appropriate and friendly manner.
Assessment criteria
A complete thesis chapter (or complete thesis) required for a pass.
Mandatory attendance and participation in classes conducted either online or in the classroom.
Any instance of plagiarism will result in a failing grade.
Bibliography
Readings depend on participants' projects.
