BA Seminar: Media and Politics in the United States 4219-ZS022
The seminar covers a variety of topics falling within its scope and within the interests of both the teacher and participants (including, but not limited to: political thought, comparative politics, political culture, political communication, international relations, social communication, traditional and social media, etc.) . The students are supposed to explore the topics they have chosen and present them to their colleagues, as well as to exchange views and comments. The result of the seminar is the preparation of BA theses on selected topics by the participants, presenting an original solution to a selected research problem with the use of research techniques and methods appropriate for social studies.

Upon completion of the course, the student will:
KNOWLEDGE
- Have an in-depth knowledge of the selected topic within the scope of the seminar.
- Possess knowledge allowing for the integration of various perspectives in researching US politics and media.
- Understand basic concepts and principles of industrial property protection and copyright law, particularly regarding plagiarism and academic ethics.
- Have a grasp of the basics of editing academic papers.
SKILLS
- Be able to search, analyze, evaluate, select, and integrate information from various sources and formulate critical judgments based on them.
- Possess research skills including the analysis of works by other authors, synthesis of different ideas and views, selection of research methods, development, and presentation of results.
- Have the ability to argue substantively, using their own views as well as those of other authors, and to formulate conclusions and summaries.
- Be capable of presenting their work to colleagues and critically assessing the work of peers; able to accept criticism regarding their own work.
SOCIAL COMPETENCES
- Be able to critically assess content related to US politics and media conveyed by media and other environments.
- Utilize acquired interdisciplinary knowledge in the field of US politics and media to formulate their own opinions.
Assessment criteria
Approvement of the seminar is based mainly on the submission of the BA thesis, however, the overall student's performance is also taken into account.
