Information Technology 4219-AL006
The Information Technology course, offered in-house by the American Studies Center, introduces the students to a range of skills, programs, and services essential to conducting effecting research in humanities and social sciences. Each class unit is devoted to a different set of contemporary digital tools and relies on hands-on practice by the students.
The units cover, among others, the following topics:
* MS Office
* Google Docs
* research tools (Evernote, Instapaper, etc.)
* note taking tools
* RSS
* automating with IFTTT
* bibliographing tools (Zotero).

Upon completing this course a student:
1. KNOWLEDGE
* has a knowledge of tools and services useful for conducting research in the humanities and social sciences
* distinguishes categories of digital tools and services
* is aware of the differences between various tools within the same category (e.g., note-taking programs)
2. SKILLS
* is able to use digital tools for research
* is able to effectively combine tools to make research more efficient
* is able to use knowledge of a range of tools and services when confronted with new IT-related challenges
3. SOCIAL COMPETENCES
* understands the ways in which these tools influence work styles
* is open to new tools and services
* understands and appreciates the role of digital tools and services in academic research
Assessment criteria
The completion of the course requires:
* regular attendance in line with university regulations
* completing tasks related to practicing the discussed tools and services
