During the seminar, students will present and discuss with an advisor and other students various stages of a thesis preparation, including the selection of a thesis subject, research plan, definition of a research problem, hypothesis formulation, data gathering, selection and application of research methods, literature review, and the analysis and elaboration of the results.

Learning outcomes
The student is able to:
(1) select sources and information derived from them, evaluate, critically analyze, synthesize, creatively interpret, and present information in the context of regional and local studies (K_U01)
(2) use appropriate research methods and tools in the field of regional and local studies; including advanced information and communication techniques and technologies, adaptation of existing methods and tolls, develop new methods and tools, formulate and test hypotheses related to simple research problems (K_U02)
(3) use normative systems, norms and rules (legal, organizational, professional, moral, ethical) to solve specific problems in the field of regional and local studies, planning, spatial conflicts, social policy; expand their skills regarding social ties of a spatial nature (K_U03)
(4) clearly, logically, and precisely prepare written studies of a scientific nature; prepare and present interesting, engaging, and coherent oral presentations on specific issues in the field of regional and local studies or on the border with related scientific disciplines (K_U04)
(5) properly define the priorities of undertaken activities, both in individual and team work, especially in the preparation and implementation of research projects in the field of regional and local studies (K_U07)
(6) think and act in a creative and entrepreneurial way, set strategic and operational goals, and apply the principles of control and evaluation of tasks (K_U08)
(7) diagnose the needs of new knowledge, skills, and competences in the field of regional and local studies, and plan and implement their own lifelong learning strategy (K_U09)
The student is able to:
(1) assess the credibility and usefulness of theories, methods, and information for solving regional and local studies problems. (K_K01)
(2) recognize the importance of knowledge in solving cognitive and practical problems and to consult experts in case of difficulties in solving the problem on their own (K_K02)
(3) use the acquired knowledge in the context of work for the benefit of the social environment, performing public functions and organizing social activities related to regional and local studies (K_K03)
(4) take initiative in activities of public interest in the field of regional and local studies (K_K04)
(5) think and act creatively in order to solve problems in the field of regional and local studies (K_K05
(6) act as a researcher and analyst aware of the challenges and responsibilities related to the formulation and communication of research results, information of the society, developing professional achievements, maintaining professional ethos, and perceiving and developing the principles of professional ethics, and acting in compliance of these principles (K_K06)
Assessment criteria
In the first semester, a detailed concept of the thesis, initial bibliography, and the research plan are assessed.
