Objectives of the course in the area of listening comprehension:
1. developing the ability to receive various audio materials – audio materials accompanying FLE textbooks and authentic materials: advertisements, weather forecasts, songs, recordings of an informative and argumentative nature (duration approx. 3-4 minutes)
2. practicing the ability to determine: the situational context (place, time, conditions, participants), the main idea of the text, the main ideas of individual parts of the text, the intention of the sender of the text
3. practicing the ability to determine whether the text contains specific information and to select information
Objectives of the course in the area of reading comprehension:
1. familiarizing students with different types of texts and their structure based on specific examples of texts
2. developing the ability to read with comprehension of different types of texts: reporting, describing, informing, instructing, arguing
3. developing the ability to understand authentic texts by familiarizing students with reading strategies (global reading – understanding the general meaning, selective reading – searching for specific information, intensive reading)
4. developing reading skills taking into account all types: reading aloud (paying attention on the correct articulation of sounds, on prosodic elements: stress, intonation, connections between words), silent reading, expressive reading (practicing the ability to express various emotions, underlining important fragments of the text, emphasizing the structure of the text)
5. familiarizing students with the stages and principles of text analysis: formulating hypotheses regarding the content of the text based on the title, author, place of publication; practicing the ability to formulate the main idea of the text based on a series of questions: who? where? when? what? why?; practicing the ability to formulate the main idea of the text based on key words; practicing the ability to recognize relationships between different parts of the text (paragraphs) based on the analysis of logical articulators
6. developing in students the competences that condition reading comprehension: lexical competence (developing a dictionary – recognizing and understanding words), grammatical competence (recognizing and understanding word relationships and sentence structures) and pragmatic competence (recognizing and understanding the stylistic and textual function; developing the ability to express the thoughts of the text in the form of a plan
Lesson objectives in the scope of developing speaking skills:
1. practicing the ability to formulate questions and provide precise and grammatically correct answers during a conversation and expressing one's own opinion on topics discussed in the texts presented in the classes
2. developing students' skills in the scope of oral presentation of the read text, presenting its main ideas
3. practicing the ability to argue one's point of view
4. Lesson objectives in the scope of developing writing skills
1. familiarizing students with different types of written texts: a private letter, a simple formal letter, an announcement, a biography, a review, a story, an essay and an analysis of their structure in order to mastering their writing
2. practicing the skill of writing a plan of a text (read or listened to)
3. developing the skill of using correct language structures by doing exercises on syntactic constructions, synonyms, logical articulators
4. writing longer argumentative texts, reports and summaries.

Assessment criteria
Classes develop four basic skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing. The methods used put the main emphasis on activities that prepare students for communication in situations related to studies and future professional work. Students receive tasks to solve, which they work on in groups of different sizes or individually.
Assessment methods and criteria –
The basis for passing the exercises is:
Attendance at classes is obligatory (Study Regulations of the University of Warsaw, III. Student rights and obligations, article 19, point 2).
a) attendance at classes: the student has the right to 2 unexcused absences from all scheduled classes of the subject in the semester. Attendance constitutes 10% of the grade.
b) systematic completion of homework - 35% of the grade at the end of the semester
c) positive passing of control papers and 2 tests in the semester - 60% pass. Passing the tests constitutes 35% of the grade at the end of the semester
The tests consist of five parts: grammar, vocabulary, listening, reading, writing
1. writing - a short text (description, story, expression of opinion on a given topic, letter/e-mail ..... ) of about 160 words;
2. reading comprehension;
3. listening;
4. grammar;
5. vocabulary;
- passes the sum of points from 60%
d) positive passing of the oral presentation at the end of the semester on prepared topics for development and texts developed during classes (passes 12 points out of 20 - 3 points structure, 3 points argumentation, 3 points fluency, logical connections, 4 points richness and use of vocabulary, 4 points grammatical correctness, linguistic correctness, 2 points phonetic correctness. ) - 20% of the final grade
As part of the NJF subject, there are additional classes - 30 hours, which are of a supporting nature. Classes include remote meetings with the lecturer and independent classes as part of the student's own work.
The NJF subject coordinator refers students to classes based on the analysis of the progress made by the student as part of the NJF classes. Each student referred by the NJF subject coordinator is obliged to participate in 80% of online meetings.
Passing all the listed elements is necessary to pass the subject - assessment according to the average number of points received in the semester.
The student has the right to retake failed tests and oral statements once additionally in the last week of classes in the semester.
Percentage calculation of the grade at the end of the semester:
60% -68% - satisfactory grade
69% -76% - satisfactory plus grade
77% -84% - good grade
85% -92% - good plus
93% - 100% - very good
