During the course trainees will acquire knowledge, practice their skills and During the course trainees will acquire knowledge, practice their skills and give consideration for their language biography and for ways of expanding intercultural and plurilingual competence of their future students.
The topics of individual classes are:
1 Introduction to the course. Presentation of students' language biographies. The necessity for plurilingual education to be included in the programme of pre-service teacher education studies.
2 The students' language autobiographies as an element of stimulating and building their own plurilingual competence and that of their learners and as a means of reflection on the factors influencing the motivation (and demotivation) to learn languages.
3 Language learning strategies, exchanging knowledge and experience of self study materials which can be used for language learning.
4 Linguistic diversity in Europe and in the world.
5. Definition of language policy. The language policy of the European Union and of the Council of Europe. Presentation of the language policy of selected countries and their most important cultural aspects.
6 The Council of Europe's conventions for the protection of minority languages: the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities and the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages.
7 The origins of plurilingual education: the basic documents and work of European institutions in the field of plurilingualism. The main ideas behind the European documents in the field of pluralistic approaches to languages and cultures. The need for familiarity with these documents in the teaching profession.
8 The basic principles of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and projects which complement this document in the field of the pluralistic approaches to languages and cultures (FREPA: A Framework of Reference for Pluralistic Approaches).
9 The concept of plurilingualism according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Definition and description of plurilingual and pluricultural competence. The benefits of developing this competence.
10 The activity of the European Centre for Modern Languages of the European Council in Graz (ECML) and the most important Polish institutions promoting linguistic and cultural diversity.
11 European educational programmes. The Erasmus+ programme. Presentation of selected educational projects of the European Commission.
12 Summing up and evaluation of the course.

Skills: the student is able to
K_U01 search, analyse, evaluate, select and use information, using a variety of sources and methods in Polish and English and, optionally, in French or German
K_U15 speak and write in a precise and coherent way in Polish on topics related to plurilingual and pluricultural education, applying different theoretical approaches and using findings from disciplines related to the pluralistic approaches to language teaching and learning

The basis for passing the exercises includes:
Attendance at classes
Preparation for classes: knowledge of recommended bibliographical positions (brochures, articles, and websites), preparation of required presentations, documentation from classes
Activity (participation in discussions and reflections)
Presentations related to the class topics
Criteria for Passing the Classes:
Attendance at all classes is required. One absence is allowed during the cycle of seven classes in a semester. Other absences must be compensated by participating in classes of another group, with the lecturer's consent, or by completing additional work.
In order to pass the classes, a positive grade must be obtained for all assessed work.
For each task, the student receives a specified number of points, which are each time converted into grades. The final grade for the semester is the arithmetic mean of the partial grades.
In case of failure to complete the work on time or receiving an insufficient grade, the student has the right to resubmit the task at an additional agreed-upon date with the lecturer or during the retake session.
The method of verifying learning outcomes may change before the course begins due to the possibility of participants using tools that utilize artificial intelligence, such as Chat GPT, for creating coursework. Any changes will be announced to students in the first classes of the winter semester.
