Reception of ancient culture 4018-KONW49
The seminar focuses on the reception of Ancient Greek culture, on the example of the Greek journey as a motif in European literature and art. Polish and European texts (particularly from the 19th and 20th centuries) will be analysed in the context of the history of European reception of Greek culture (both ancient and modern). Apart from the merit side of issues such as the themes, motifs and conventions of "Greek travel writing", methodological issues are an important aspect of the seminar, especially the question of how to analyse literary works rooted in ancient tradition. The broader issues of the reception of ancient culture will include: modern reception of the Greek myths as well as motifs and themes from the literature and culture of Ancient Greece, Mediterranean geography of culture, changes in the reception of Greek cultural heritage in modern Europe.

Developing the ability to analyse and interpret forms of reception of Ancient Greek heritage in European culture.
Assessment criteria
Students will be assessed in terms of how diligently and carefully they work on the required texts and studies, and for their ability to think independently.
