Vilnius (in Lithuanian) and Wilno (in Polish), being one city, got different histories according to who, when and in what context is or was making an attempt to told its past and present. The divisions and differences in the histories of Vilnius/Wilno are due to many factors: national, social, religious, ideological and strictly personal. The aim of this course is to trace many histories of one City since the Early Modern Times up to the Present, 21st century. The analysis includes all aspects of City’s past: economy and population, self-governance, religious life, arts and crafts, politics education.

Knowledge:
1. Student has an advanced knowledge about Vilnius/Wilno history and its different ways of telling according to who and when is talking/writing about
2. Student has a knowledge about City histories and City memories
Skills:
1. Student can recognize differences between histories of Vilnius/Wilno and is prepared to explain them
Competences:
1. Student is aware of the fact that along with ‘histories’ of the City of Vilnius/Wilno the portrait of the City is made of personal an collective memories
2. When histories and memories concerning Vilnius/Wilno are in conflict student is competent to solve it through analyze and debate
