Judaic studies seminar 3600-HE-SJ-OG

During the class students read chosen Hebrew texts of Mishnah giving a considerable amount of thought to original names and the Mishna’s patterned language and its forms. The crucial topics of this lecture depend on chosen Mishnaic texts. While reading the first part of Mishnah named Zeraim religious image of the world, respect for God, prayers, charity and care of the poor, release of debts, gifts and tithes for the Temple, or kilayim will be discussed. While reading the second part of Mishnah: Hebrew calendar, Jewish festivals, Sabbath and eruv, fasting and fast days in Judaism.
Discussion and choosing subjects of presentations, their methodology, literature, main thesis and assumptions.
