Arabic literature 1 3600-7-AR1-LA1
The main purpose of the course is to present the introductory information concerning the literature and culture of the Arabs between 6th until 18th C. The first period is so called Jahiliyya in which developed above all the poetical form of qasida and several primitive prose forms. After that came Islam with the Koran – its literary form will be discussed. The next period is the early Islamic time with panegyrical poetry and the Umayyad period – the times in which first traces of changes in poetry as the development of high prose can be seen. The Abbasid Period is a witness of the extraordinary growth of poetry (in classicist and modernist manner) and of belles letters as well as of historiography, geographical writing and so on.
