B.A. seminar 3600-19-SIW3-SL6
The main aim of these classes is to prepare students for writing a BA thesis concerning Chinese literature, history, art, aesthetics, religion,philosophy or culture.
This includes providing assistance with:
-) choosing the direction of research and the subject of the thesis, consultations on materials and choosing the right source literature, selecting a methodology and determining the scope of usage of Chinese language materials.
-) Acquiring the ability to use knowledge of literature and culture to independently analyse cultural and literary processes and phenomena.
Part of this seminar will also be devoted to discussion of theoretical problems concerning general and sinological cultural and literary studies.
-) Choosing source materials, becoming acquainted with the state of research on a particular subject.
-) substantive discussions of the group and thesis supervisor, preparing the outline of the thesis, preparing bibliography and footnotes, skillful usage of sources and correct referencing.

K_U07- can compare and perceive interrelations between chosen literary texts and other works of culture of China (film, press, social writing) and the issues within the scope of tradition and modern times;
K_U11 - has a good command of a foreign language at least at the B2 level;
K_U13 - analyze and interpret source texts in Chinese;
K_U15 - interpret key terms from a culture of China through linguistic/philological analysis;
K_U16 - fluently use the classical Chinese and the necessary tools to learn and analyze it (traditional and electronic dictionaries, lexicons, linguistic corpora, data bases, etc.);
K_U17 - properly function in the linguistic and cultural environment of China;
K_U18 - has the necessary skills to prepare seminar papers: can select and find sources and analyses in Chinese, knows the methodology of writing seminar papers;
K_U19 - can use basic knowledge in the scope of methodology of cultural research in a seminar paper;
K_U20 - choose and formulate a subject of a BA thesis, select and find sources in Chinese, make references to basic theoretical approaches;
K_U21 - has a skill at formulating own opinions and conclusions in writing and in speech both in Polish and Chinese;
K_U22 - has a skill in presenting detailed aspects within the scope of cultural issues of China in Polish and in Chinese taking into consideration the intellectual tradition of China;
K_U23 - has the ability of substantive argumentation with the use of other authors’ views;
K_U24 - use electronic and internet tools both in Polish and Chinese;
K_U25 - communicate with specialists in the fields of academic research and in academic disciplines pertinent to the Oriental Studies – Sinology using contemporary IT technology;
K_U26 - can acquire knowledge independently and develop research skills following the research supervisor’s instructions;
K_K01 - understands the need to learn all one’s life;
K_K02 - cooperate and work in a group as well as forge relationships and build social relations;
K_K04 - set appropriate goals and ways to achieve them in the context of academic, professional and social activity;

Assessment criteria
During assessment the following will be considered:
Attendance and active participation in classes
Preparation of presentation and active participation in substantive discussions
Progress in writing the thesis
Submitting the finished thesis is necessary for receiving the course credit
The classes are obligatory . The student can be absent without excuse two times during each semester. If excused absences exceed 30% the student will not receive credit.
