Social and Intercultural Dialogue 3502-JIS-12
.
In the light of the rising instrumentalisation of interpersonal contacts and resultant growth in verbal aggression and social alienation, humanities have faced a dilemma of finding solutions to the ongoing crisis of human civilization. A response to the deepening isolation of man in the contemporary world and the ensuing inability to solve emerging conflicts are different forms of social dialogue. They constitute participatory discourse action, which can empower speakers to build community, solidarity and cooperation in social relations.
The course aims to study constructive and peace-oriented means of communication in private and public domains. They include conciliatory genres, such as integrative negotiations, therapy, mediation, counselling, social consultations or commemoration, all representing dialogic forms of conflict management. It consists in the crossing of the parties’ particularistic aims with a view to overcoming social barriers, aggression and marginalisation. As variants of alternative dispute resolution, the linguistic devices mediate the process of peace-making, peace-building and reconciliation. By constructing bonds of mutual trust, respect, equality and interdependence, the dialogue establishes the common ground for participatory relations and harmonious exchange in social life.
