Sociology of Deviance 3500-FAK-SOCDEW-OG
The course offers a general survey of the sociology of deviance and emphasizes various perspectives on deviance: ways of looking at deviance and deviant behavior, as well as approaches to controlling that behavior. Also, it attempts to show the relation between deviance theories and ways of thinking about the social order. Referring to the classical and contemporary sociological and criminological texts, we will discuss the most important ways of conceptualizing deviance and sociological explanatory concepts. The aim of the course is to show the how our thinking about deviant behavior is embedded in our thinking about the foundations of social order.
