- The structure of a research process- Techniques of selecting phenomena for research (random and non-random sampling)- Classification of data collection techniques- Quantitative and qualitative techniques of data analysis- Survey research methods; panel studies and other longitudinal research- Polish General Social Survey as a method of disseminating information about the Polish society; International Social Survey Programme as a method of comparative cross-national research - Unstructured interviews (in-depth interview) and focus group interviews- Observational methods, in particular participant observation; Case studies- Official documents as a source of statistical data- Qualitative and quantitative techniques for content analysis- Biographical method and narrative interview- Experimental and quasi-experimental research- Research ethics
During the course, the student is expected to become familiar with different methods, techniques and types of analysis, which in future will enable him/her to:- use the work of other researchers in a critical way- design and conduct his/her own research
