Central to an understanding of the criminal justice system is the phenomenon of punishment. It is through an understanding of the
complex issue of phenomenon of punishment tha we can arrive at a cogent basis for evaluation both of contemporary penal practices and the content of the criminal law. We present this problem from the perspective of culturally integrated theory of punishment.
